Dry-Mix Mortar Raw Materials — Products and Function
Dry-mix mortar manufacturers require a consistent, well-characterised supply of functional additives. Raykem supplies the complete additive package for tile adhesive, wall putty, EIFS, floor screed, and repair mortar production:
HPMC — Water Retention & Open Time
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (CAS 9004-65-3) is the primary functional additive in all dry-mix mortar systems. K grade at viscosity 60,000–100,000 mPas dosed at 0.25–0.40% by dry weight provides water retention ≥95% and open time ≥20 min for C1/C2 tile adhesive. View HPMC →
RDP — Flexibility & Tensile Adhesion
Redispersible polymer powder (VAE or VAc-VeoVa copolymer) at 2–4% increases tensile adhesion strength to ≥1.0 N/mm² (C2 class, EN 12004) and reduces mortar E-modulus for crack bridging. MFFT ≤5°C grades available for all-season application. View RDP →
Calcium Formate — Early Strength Accelerator
Calcium formate 98% (CAS 544-17-2) is a chloride-free cement accelerator dosed at 0.5–1.5% by cement weight. It accelerates C₃S hydration, delivering higher early compressive strength at 1 and 3 days. EN 934-2 compliant, safe for reinforced concrete. View Calcium Formate →
PCE — Polycarboxylate Ether Superplasticiser
PCE superplasticiser is used in self-levelling floor compounds and high-flow grouts to achieve the required fluidity at low water-cement ratios. Dosed at 0.1–0.5% by cement weight. Compatible with HPMC and calcium formate in the same formulation. View PCE →
Cellulose Fibre — Anti-Crack Reinforcement
Micro-cellulose fibres (0.05–0.2mm length) are added at 0.1–0.3% to EIFS base coats, renders, and repair mortars to reduce plastic shrinkage cracking. Fibres distribute stress across the mortar matrix and prevent crack propagation. Compatible with all other functional additives. View Cellulose Fibre →
Powder Defoamer — Air Void Control
Powder defoamers (mineral oil or hydrophobic silica based) are dosed at 0.05–0.2% to prevent air entrapment during dry-mix mortar production and on-site mixing. Excessive air voids reduce adhesion strength and compressive strength. View Powder Defoamer →
