Acrylic Polyols — Part A for 2-Component Polyurethane Topcoats

Acrylic polyols are the hydroxyl-functional Part A component in two-component polyurethane (2K PU) topcoat systems — combined with aliphatic isocyanates (HDI trimer or IPDI, Part B) to produce the most UV-stable, colour-retentive, and durable coating systems available for exterior applications in the GCC's harsh climate. When formulated as 2K PU topcoats over epoxy primers, acrylic polyol-based systems deliver 5–10 year service life on industrial and architectural structures exposed to UAE and Saudi Arabia's intense solar radiation.

Primary resin component in 2K PU topcoats for exterior building facades, structural steel, aluminium cladding, and architectural metalwork across UAE and Saudi Arabia. Provides the superior UV stability and gloss retention that epoxy topcoats cannot deliver under GCC UV conditions.

Usage & Recommendations

Use with aliphatic isocyanate (Part B). Mix ratio = OHEq of polyol / NCO eq of isocyanate = 1:1 equivalent ratio (slight NCO excess 1.05–1.1 recommended for full cure). DBTDL or bismuth-based catalyst at 0.01–0.1% on total formulation weight accelerates cure. Apply by spray for best results. Pot-life at GCC ambient temperatures (35–45°C): 30–60 minutes typical — work in shade. All surfaces must be primed with compatible two-component epoxy primer before topcoat application for maximum adhesion and corrosion protection.

Storage & Shelf Life

Store in sealed containers at 5–30°C away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep containers sealed when not in use. Shelf life: 12 months from manufacture date.
