Phenalkamine Hardener for Construction Epoxy Systems | GCC

Phenalkamine hardeners for construction applications are specifically selected and formulated for epoxy systems used in infrastructure waterproofing, concrete repair, flooring, and protective coatings — where the GCC's combination of high humidity, damp substrates, and extreme temperatures creates challenging application conditions. Unlike standard amine hardeners, phenalkamines provide reliable cure on damp concrete, moisture-tolerant adhesion, and blush-free films in the high relative humidity common at GCC coastal construction sites in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Kuwait City, and Muscat.

Applications — UAE, Saudi Arabia & GCC

Concrete Waterproofing & Damp Substrate Coating

Primary hardener for epoxy waterproofing coatings applied to damp or wet concrete in GCC basement structures, tunnels, underground car parks, and infrastructure where substrate drying prior to application is impractical. Phenalkamines bond to the damp concrete surface without blush or delamination.

GCC Infrastructure Repair & Bridge Coatings

Used in epoxy coating systems for concrete bridge decks, parking structures, and infrastructure in GCC — Qatar's QNH and Lusail projects, Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 infrastructure, and UAE's expanding metro and road networks.

Industrial Floor Coatings on Green Concrete

Enables epoxy floor coating application on concrete that has not fully dried — reducing construction programme time on GCC projects where the construction schedule does not allow 28-day concrete drying before floor coating application.

Pipe & Tank Lining on Potable Water Infrastructure

Phenalkamine-cured epoxy linings for potable water tanks, pipelines, and reservoirs — applicable in GCC water infrastructure where assets cannot be fully dewatered or dried prior to lining application.

Marine & Coastal Infrastructure Protection

Applied in splash zone and tidal zone coatings on GCC coastal structures — jetties, seawalls, piers, and port facilities where salt spray, humidity, and wave action make damp-surface cure essential.

Usage & Recommendations

Use with RAYPOXY YR-128 liquid epoxy resin. Mix ratio: 60–100 g phenalkamine per 100 g epoxy (EEW 190) — calculate from actual AHEW on batch COA. For damp surface application: substrate must be firm, sound, and free of standing water — damp is acceptable, puddles are not. In GCC summer conditions: use early morning application (lower temperature, lower humidity) for maximum pot-life. Pot-life at 45°C is 30–50% of the 25°C datasheet value. Storage & Shelf Life

Store in sealed containers at 5–30°C in a ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Phenalkamines react with atmospheric CO₂ and moisture — keep sealed. Shelf life: 12 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Phenalkamine-cured epoxy can be applied to damp concrete (moisture present but no free water). Standing water or saturated concrete will cause adhesion failure regardless of hardener type. Before application: mop up free water, allow surface to become "surface dry" (damp to touch, no glistening water), and ensure the substrate is structurally sound. Do not apply epoxy to concrete less than 28 days old unless using a moisture-tolerant primer system. In GCC coastal areas where substrate moisture is a persistent issue, using a phenalkamine primer coat (applied damp-surface) followed by a polyamide or cycloaliphatic topcoat is the recommended approach for long-term performance.
