DETA (Diethylenetriamine, CAS 111-40-0) is a low molecular weight, highly reactive primary aliphatic amine curing agent for epoxy resin systems. With five active amine hydrogens per molecule and a very low AHEW of 20.7 g/eq, DETA enables fast ambient temperature cure of epoxy systems at very low addition levels. Typical addition: 12–14 g DETA per 100 g epoxy (EEW 190). Accurate weighing is critical — DETA's low AHEW means small errors significantly affect stoichiometry. Pot-life is short (15–30 min at 25°C) and extremely short in GCC summer heat — work in small batches only. DETA is a skin and respiratory sensitiser — PPE including nitrile gloves, goggles, and respiratory protection mandatory. Consider RAYCURE 238 (modified aliphatic amine) for improved handling characteristics and longer pot-life in demanding GCC applications. RAYCURE TETA (CAS 112-24-3) is the closely related 4-amine equivalent with slightly longer pot-life.
Store in tightly sealed containers at 5–30°C in a dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat, and incompatible materials (strong acids, oxidisers). Hygroscopic — keep sealed. Shelf life: 24 months from manufacture.
