Titanium Dioxide — Sulphate Grade TiO2 | UAE & Saudi Arabia

CAS No: 13463-67-7 · HS Code: 3206.11

Titanium Dioxide Sulphate Grade (TiO2, CAS 13463-67-7) is a cost-effective white pigment produced via the sulphate process, available in both Rutile and Anatase crystal structures. Widely used in decorative architectural paints, interior wall coatings, paper, rubber, and general plastics applications across UAE and Saudi Arabia, sulphate grade TiO2 delivers excellent whiteness and opacity at a competitive price point — making it the standard raw material for volume decorative paint manufacturers across the GCC.

Interior Decorative & Emulsion Paints

Sulphate grade TiO2 (rutile or anatase) is the standard white pigment in interior emulsion paints for residential and commercial buildings across UAE and Saudi Arabia — providing good opacity and whiteness at a competitive cost.

Exterior Architectural Paints (Standard Grade)

Sulphate rutile TiO2 with Al₂O₃ surface treatment provides adequate UV resistance for standard exterior architectural paints. For premium exterior coatings with maximum chalking resistance, chloride grade is recommended.

Paper & Board Coatings

Anatase TiO2 (high brightness, low abrasiveness) is preferred in paper coating and filling applications for UAE and GCC packaging and printing industries.

Rubber & Plastics

Provides whiteness and UV protection in rubber compounds, PVC cables, and plastic products manufactured across UAE industrial zones.

Distemper & Economy Paints

Standard white pigment in economy-grade water-based distemper and ceiling paints widely used in UAE and Saudi Arabia economy residential segment.

Construction Products

Used in white cement, tile grouts, waterproofing coatings, and sealants where good opacity at lower cost is the primary requirement.

Usage & Recommendations

Sulphate Rutile: use for exterior and semi-gloss architectural paints where moderate UV resistance is acceptable. Sulphate Anatase: restrict to interior applications — anatase promotes photocatalytic degradation of organic binders under UV, causing chalking in exterior coatings. Typical loading: 15–22% in architectural paints. For premium exterior coatings where SASO compliance and long-term performance are critical, consider upgrading to Chloride Grade TiO2. Frequently Asked Questions

Always use Rutile grade for exterior coatings. Anatase TiO2 is photocatalytically active — under the intense UV radiation of UAE and Saudi Arabia, it promotes oxidation of the organic binder, leading to chalking, loss of gloss, and premature film degradation. Rutile TiO2 (especially chloride-process grades with Al₂O₃/ZrO₂ surface treatment) converts UV energy to heat without degrading the binder — dramatically extending exterior coating service life. For interior applications where UV exposure is minimal, anatase TiO2 is acceptable and offers slightly better brightness.

Sulphate grade TiO2 is typically 10–20% lower cost than chloride grade due to lower production complexity and lower raw material purity requirements. However, chloride grade's superior hiding power (typically 5–8% higher tinting strength) means you use less per litre of paint — partially offsetting the price difference. When accounting for performance over the coating's service life, chloride grade often delivers better total cost of ownership for exterior applications. Contact Raykem for current UAE/Saudi Arabia market pricing for both grades.
