DINP — Di-Isononyl Phthalate Plasticiser | CAS 68515-48-0 | UAE

CAS No: 68515-48-0 · HS Code: 2917.12

DINP (Di-Isononyl Phthalate, CAS 68515-48-0) is the leading general-purpose phthalate plasticiser for flexible PVC applications globally and in the GCC. As the preferred replacement for DEHP (DOP) in most flexible PVC applications, DINP offers excellent permanence, low volatility, good electrical properties, and a more favourable regulatory profile — making it the standard plasticiser for PVC flooring, cables, hoses, automotive interior components, and general industrial flexible PVC manufactured and consumed across UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Applications — UAE, Saudi Arabia & GCC

Flexible PVC Flooring & Vinyl Tiles

Standard plasticiser in PVC flooring, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), and vinyl composite tile (VCT) produced and installed across UAE commercial, hospitality, and residential buildings. High permanence ensures dimensional stability in GCC's hot ambient conditions.

PVC Cables & Wiring Insulation

Primary plasticiser for PVC wire and cable insulation and jacketing produced or imported for UAE and Saudi Arabia construction, industrial, and power distribution applications.

Automotive Interior PVC Components

Used in PVC interior trim, dashboard compounds, door panels, and seating materials for vehicles assembled and sold in the GCC — DINP's low volatility prevents plasticiser migration to glass ("fogging") in hot car interiors.

PVC Hoses, Tubing & Profiles

Standard plasticiser for flexible PVC hoses, irrigation tubing, and extruded profiles manufactured across UAE and Saudi Arabia industrial zones.

Coated Fabrics & Tarpaulins

Used in PVC-coated fabrics for truck tarpaulins, industrial covers, and agricultural films across the GCC — DINP's high flash point (≥ 220°C) and good heat stability make it suitable for hot-lamination processes.

Usage & Recommendations

Typical loading in flexible PVC: 40–80 phr (parts per hundred resin) depending on flexibility requirement. For cables: 35–50 phr with Ca-Zn or organotin heat stabiliser. For flooring: 30–45 phr. DINP is not suitable for medical device PVC (use DEHP alternatives such as DINCH or TOTM for medical). For outdoor GCC applications (irrigation tubing, tarpaulins), include UV stabiliser and antioxidant package to prevent plasticiser migration and UV-induced PVC degradation.

Storage & Shelf Life

Store in sealed drums at 5–35°C. DINP has excellent storage stability — shelf life 24 months in original sealed containers. Flash point ≥ 220°C — standard storage classification.

Frequently Asked Questions

DOP (DEHP, Di-2-Ethylhexyl Phthalate, CAS 117-81-7) was the original general-purpose PVC plasticiser. DEHP is now classified as an SVHC under REACH (reproductive toxicant) and is restricted in many product categories including toys, childcare articles, and medical devices in the EU. DINP (CAS 68515-48-0) has a higher molecular weight, lower volatility, and a more favourable regulatory classification — it is the standard replacement for DEHP in most flexible PVC applications. For UAE and Saudi Arabia domestic production, both are currently commercially used, but the regulatory trend favours DINP and other high-MW alternatives. DINP provides slightly lower plasticising efficiency than DEHP (requires ~5% higher loading) but superior permanence.
