Chlorinated Paraffin Wax — CP52 & CP70 | UAE & Saudi Arabia

Chlorinated Paraffin Wax (CPW) is a versatile secondary plasticiser and flame retardant additive used in flexible PVC compounds, metalworking fluids, rubber, and sealants across UAE and Saudi Arabia industrial manufacturing. Available in medium-chain (CP52, ~52% chlorine) and high-chain (CP70, ~70% chlorine) grades, CPW provides cost-effective plasticiser extension and flame retardancy in PVC cable compounds, flooring, and industrial rubber goods — reducing formulation cost vs primary phthalate plasticisers while adding fire resistance.

Applications — UAE, Saudi Arabia & GCC

Secondary PVC Plasticiser — Cost Reduction

CPW is used at 20–40% replacement of primary phthalate (DINP/DEHP) in flexible PVC compounds — reducing formulation cost while maintaining acceptable flexibility. Used by UAE and Saudi Arabia PVC cable, hose, and flooring manufacturers to manage raw material cost.

Flame Retardant Additive in PVC Cables

CP70 (high chlorine content) provides flame retardancy to PVC cable insulation and jacketing — the chlorine content acts as a halogen-based flame retardant, slowing flame spread in electrical cable applications critical for UAE and Saudi Arabia building codes.

Metalworking & Cutting Fluid Additive

CP52 is used as an extreme pressure (EP) additive in metalworking cutting fluids, gear oils, and industrial lubricants — the active chlorine provides lubricity under high-pressure metal cutting conditions in UAE manufacturing.

Rubber & Sealant Formulations

Used as a plasticiser and processing aid in natural and synthetic rubber compounds and polysulphide sealants for construction and industrial applications.

Waterproofing & Bituminous Coatings

Added to bituminous and solvent-based waterproofing coatings to improve flexibility and reduce cost — used in construction waterproofing applications across UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Usage & Recommendations

Secondary plasticiser replacement: substitute 15–35% of DINP with CP52 (w/w of total plasticiser) in cost-optimised PVC compounds. Exceeding 35% substitution may reduce electrical properties and increase compound viscosity. For flame-retardant cable jackets: use CP70 at 10–20 phr with DINP main plasticiser and Ca-Zn stabiliser. Regulatory note: Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCP, C10-13) are listed as POPs under the Stockholm Convention and restricted. Raykem supplies only medium-chain (CP52, C14-17) and long-chain (CP70, C18-30) grades which are not restricted — ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Storage & Shelf Life

Store in sealed drums at 5–40°C. CP52 is a viscous liquid — may require warming (40°C) to improve pourability in winter. CP70 is semi-solid — store above 20°C to facilitate handling. Flash point > 200°C — standard storage. Shelf life: 24 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

The number refers to chlorine content by weight. CP52 has approximately 52% chlorine — it is a viscous liquid at room temperature, commonly used as a secondary PVC plasticiser and metalworking additive. CP70 has approximately 70% chlorine — it is a waxy solid with much higher flame-retardant performance, used primarily in flame-retardant PVC cable compounds and rubber. CP52 provides more plasticising effect; CP70 provides more flame retardancy. Selection depends on your application priority — contact Raykem with your compound requirements for a specific recommendation.
