Iron Oxide Yellow Pigment — CAS 51274-00-1 | UAE & Saudi Arabia

CAS No: 51274-00-1 · HS Code: 2821.10

Iron Oxide Yellow (goethite, FeOOH, CAS 51274-00-1) is a synthetic inorganic pigment supplying yellow, ochre, and buff tones to paints, coatings, concrete products, and construction materials across the GCC. Unlike organic yellow pigments, iron oxide yellow offers outstanding lightfastness, full alkali resistance, non-toxicity, and SASO compliance — making it the standard yellow pigment for architectural coatings, cement colouring, and industrial paints in UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Applications — UAE, Saudi Arabia & GCC

Architectural Paints — Earth Tones

Primary pigment for yellow, ochre, sand, and buff-tone architectural paints popular in UAE and Saudi Arabia buildings — particularly for Islamic architecture, heritage projects, and desert-tone palettes suited to GCC aesthetic preferences.

Concrete & Paving Colouring

Produces yellow and buff concrete paving blocks, roof tiles, and precast concrete elements. Alkali-stable and UV-resistant in cement environments — standard specification for coloured concrete products across UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Industrial Primers & Anti-Corrosion Coatings

Used in yellow chromate-alternative primers and industrial maintenance coatings where iron oxide yellow provides corrosion-inhibiting properties without the environmental concerns of lead or chromate pigments.

Decorative & Textured Coatings

Produces earth-tone textured wall coatings for interior and exterior applications. Compatible with acrylic, polyurethane, and silicate binder systems.

Roof Coatings & Waterproofing

Colourant for elastomeric roof coatings and waterproofing membranes — provides yellow and ochre tones stable under intense GCC sunlight.

Usage & Recommendations

Typical loading: 2–12% by weight in architectural paints. For buff/ochre tones, blend with iron oxide red and titanium dioxide. Note the 180°C heat stability limit — do not use in powder coatings or stoving systems above this temperature (use iron oxide red or brown instead). For concrete: 1–5% by cement weight. Disperse thoroughly in grinding mill — yellow iron oxides have higher oil absorption than red grades and require more dispersant attention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Iron oxide yellow (FeOOH, goethite) undergoes thermal dehydration above approximately 180°C: 2FeOOH → Fe₂O₃ + H₂O. The resulting Fe₂O₃ is iron oxide red (hematite). This is an irreversible phase transition. For applications involving heat above 180°C — powder coatings, stoving enamels, high-temperature industrial coatings — use iron oxide red, brown, or black, which are already in the hematite or magnetite phase and are thermally stable.

Yes. Iron oxide yellow (CAS 51274-00-1, FeOOH) is fully compliant with SASO standards for architectural and industrial coatings in Saudi Arabia. It contains no prohibited heavy metals (lead, chromium VI, mercury, cadmium) and meets GSO environmental requirements. Raykem provides full COA with heavy metal analysis for SABER certification documentation.
