Defoamers for Paint, Coatings & Industrial Processes — UAE

Defoamers are essential additives in water-based and solvent-based paints, coatings, adhesives, and industrial process liquids — they break surface foam generated during mixing, filling, and application, and prevent subsurface micro-foam (entrained air) from causing film defects such as pinholes, craters, and reduced gloss. Raykem supplies silicone-based, mineral oil-based, and silicone-free polymeric defoamers suited to architectural and industrial coating systems produced across UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Architectural Emulsion Paints

Mineral oil and silicone emulsion defoamers prevent foam generation during high-speed mixing and filling of water-based emulsion paints in UAE and Saudi Arabia paint factories — improving production efficiency and avoiding air entrapment in packed cans.

High-Gloss & Semi-Gloss Water-Based Coatings

Silicone-free polymeric defoamers provide foam control without the risk of silicone-induced cratering and fisheyes in high-gloss water-based finishes — critical for premium architectural and furniture coatings.

Epoxy Floor Coating Systems

Defoamers in epoxy primer and self-levelling floor coatings prevent pinholes and bubble formation during application and cure — particularly important in UAE summer conditions where elevated substrate temperature drives solvent and air out of the film rapidly.

Concrete Admixtures & Grouts

Mineral oil and TIBP defoamers control foam in concrete admixture and grout formulations — excessive air in cementitious systems reduces compressive strength and increases permeability.

Industrial Process Liquids

Defoamers for cooling water systems, wastewater treatment, paper production, and industrial cleaning systems in UAE and Saudi Arabia industrial facilities.

Usage & Recommendations

Add defoamer in two split doses: 50% during pigment grinding stage, 50% at letdown. Overdosing silicone defoamer causes crawling, fisheyes, and inter-coat adhesion problems — use minimum effective level. For high-gloss coatings, use silicone-free polymeric defoamer to avoid any risk of surface defects. For concrete floor coatings in UAE summer: higher addition may be needed at elevated substrate temperatures (30–50°C) which accelerate air release. Always test foam suppression and surface appearance in your specific formulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pinholes in epoxy floor coatings are caused by air or solvent vapour bubbles bursting through the film surface as it cures. In UAE summer conditions (substrate temperatures 35–55°C in outdoor or unshaded areas), the elevated temperature significantly accelerates solvent evaporation and drives air out of the mixed system — the film may start to gel before all bubbles have had time to flow out. Solutions: (1) apply in early morning when substrate is cooler, (2) increase defoamer addition level, (3) add RAYCURE RD12 reactive diluent to reduce viscosity and help bubbles escape, (4) use a roller with shorter nap, (5) back-roll to pop surface bubbles before they are locked in.
