Monoethanolamine (MEA) | CAS 141-43-5 | Supplier UAE & GCC

Monoethanolamine (MEA, 2-Aminoethanol, CAS 141-43-5) is a clear, colourless, viscous liquid with a mild ammonia-like odour. It is a bifunctional compound containing both an amino and hydroxyl group, making it highly versatile in chemical applications. MEA is widely used in natural gas sweetening (CO2/H2S removal), cement grinding aids, surfactant production, and as a raw material in agricultural chemicals. Raykem supplies MEA across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the GCC from our Dubai office with full COA, SDS, and TDS.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between MEA, DEA, and TEA?
MEA (monoethanolamine) has one amino group and one hydroxyl group — highest reactivity, lowest viscosity, used for gas sweetening and cement. DEA (diethanolamine) is less reactive, used in gas sweetening and as a surfactant intermediate. TEA (triethanolamine) is least reactive, higher viscosity, used for cement grinding and as an emulsifier. All three are available from Raykem.
Can MEA be used as a cement grinding aid?
Yes. MEA is used in combination with TEA (triethanolamine) as a cement grinding aid — typically at 0.01–0.05% on cement clinker weight. MEA improves early strength development by acting as a grinding aid and early strength promoter. Contact Raykem for technical formulation guidance.
What safety precautions are required for MEA handling?

MEA is corrosive and can cause skin and eye burns on contact. Inhalation of vapour can cause respiratory irritation. Required PPE: chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile or neoprene), safety goggles, and respiratory protection in enclosed areas. Storage in cool, dry conditions away from strong acids and oxidisers. Full SDS available on request.
